Project: Research and evaluation support for an alcohol and other drugs funding scheme
Led by Mary Haines, MHC built research capacity and provided quality assurance to support successful NGO grant recipients of the Alcohol and Other Drugs (AOD) Early Intervention Innovation Fund. MHC also provided strategic policy advice to the Ministry of Health on the scheme to help build the evidence base for early intervention models and ensure improved program delivery, services, results and outcomes.
What MHC Did
- Conducted reviews of the evaluations and provided analysis to the NSW Ministry of Health.
- Designed monitoring frameworks and strategies with a focus on outcomes and technical rigour
- Conducted reviews of evaluation reports to assess compliance with technical evaluation protocols and provided assurance activities

Outcome
The evaluation plans were designed with more methodological rigour and consistency in approach than would have been the case without MHC’s advice and guidance.
MHC’s work has also built evaluation capacity in the NGO organisations who were awarded funding, advice and guidance to the Ministry on improvements to the grant program, including Ted Noffs Foundation, Kedesh Rehabilitation Services, ACON, Mission Australia and Odyssey House.

MHC was engaged to support the Department of Education develop its first research strategy.


MHC worked collaboratively with Cancer Institute NSW leaders to develop a Monitoring and Evaluation Plan for the NSW Cancer Plan 2022 – 2027.
