MHC was engaged to support the Department of Education develop its first research strategy.
What MHC Did
- Designed a research strategy and set research priorities
- Developed implementation and delivery plans for the research strategy
- Embedded research into services, programs and policy
- Built organisational research capacity
- Engaged and consulted with stakeholders (including workshop facilitation)
- Reviewed research structures and operational processes
- Designed governance structures
Outcome
The strategy was published as a research statement, outlining the Department’s commitment to strategically aligned research that supports all NSW students in learning, growing, and thriving within an outstanding and equitable education system. Alongside the strategy, a companion research guide was released, detailing the Department’s evidence needs to achieve the objectives set out in the research statement.

Related Projects
NSW Department of Communities and Justice (DCJ), formerly the NSW Department of Family and Community Services, engaged MHC to work alongside them in an MHC-Client joint team to develop a research strategy. MHC managed the process to develop the strategy, co-designed its components, co-led the consultations and co-led the process to set priorities.
Led by Mary Haines, MHC co-designed and operationalised a governance and management framework and established a Project Management Office to support the NSW Health COVID-19 Research Program.
MHC worked with senior leaders across NSW Health to identify system priorities for research and develop guidance for research partnerships.
